Basic Facts

• District enrollment: 2,002
• Certified staff (teachers, administrators, counselors, librarians): 151
• Additional staff: (clerical, tutorial and other aide positions): 125
• The district employs two school psychologists and there is at least one guidance counselor in each building.
• Each of the Shorewood district’s schools offers a library that exceeds national standards.

District Schools:
• Atwater Elementary serves K4 through grade 6
• Lake Bluff Elementary serves K4 through grade 6
• Shorewood Intermediate School serves grades 7 and 8
• Shorewood High School serves grades 9 through 12
• Shorewood’s student population is diverse. English Language Learners (ELL) make up roughly 5% of the total student population and approximately 9% of the student population at Atwater Elementary School.
• The Shorewood School District has participated in the Milwaukee 220 Student Transfer program since 1977, with currently over 156 Milwaukee students attending the Shorewood schools as part of this program.
• 146 non-resident students attend Shorewood schools as part of the Open Enrollment program.
• In 1999, a classroom that serves the specific needs of the cognitively disabled was opened at Lake Bluff grade school. This specialized facility draws students from a number of North Shore communities.
• In 2005, New Horizons Charter School opened at Shorewood High School. New Horizons provides a unique, hands-on approach to learning for students experiencing significant problems completing their graduation requirements in regular academic classes.
• Instruction in physical education, computers, foreign language, art and music augment the primary academic instruction provided by the districts schools.
• The schools’ performing arts programs, including both music and drama are among the very best of their kind in the state.

Atwater and Lake Bluff Elementary Schools
Shorewood elementary schools provide every child with a foundation for a lifetime of learning and achievement.
• All Shorewood elementary students receive Spanish language instruction.
• The vast majority of Shorewood elementary school students scored as “proficient or advanced” on the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam (WKCE).

Shorewood Intermediate School
Shorewood Intermediate School is a high-achieving, diverse community where all students develop a positive sense of self and strive to achieve their fullest potential.
• The vast majority of Shorewood Intermediate School students scored as “proficient or advanced” on the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam (WKCE).

Shorewood High School
In addition to providing outstanding scholastics, Shorewood High School also fosters achievement in all areas of development though its outstanding extracurricular activities including sports, music and its nationally recognized theater and drama program.
• Shorewood H.S. graduation rate: 99.3%
• Shorewood High School drop-out rate: 0%
• SHS offers Advanced Placement courses in art, mathematics, science and English.
• Weighted or 5th year programs are offered at Shorewood High School in social studies and foreign language.
• The average ACT score for SHS students in 2006: 24.3 (state avg. 22.2 / national avg. 20.9)
• In 2006 the average SAT scores at SHS were 619 (verbal), 614 (math), 617 (writing) – State averages: 588 (verbal), 600 (math), 577 (writing) – National averages: 503 (verbal), 518 (math), 497 (writing)
• Six members of the SHS class of 2007 qualified as National Merit Scholar finalists.
• 90%+ of Shorewood High School graduates go on to 2- or 4-year colleges.
• Parents in Shorewood are actively engaged in their children’s education through our PTOs, the SEED program and our Booster Clubs.
